William O’Brien practices in the area of civil litigation with an emphasis on the representation of people who have been seriously injured. Bill has successfully prosecuted and resolved numerous cases involving automobile and truck collisions, pedestrian accidents, dangerous premises, product liability, liquor liability, animal bites and wrongful death matters.

Education and Professional Experience

Bill is a graduate of the University of Connecticut (B.A.1980) and attended New England School of Law (J.D. 1989), evening division, while working full-time as a claim supervisor in the Boston Field Office of the Travelers Insurance Company.

In 1989, Bill moved back to Connecticut and joined the Hartford Field Office of the Travelers where he supervised major claims involving catastrophic injuries and fatalities. In 1991, he joined the Staff Counsel Offices of Aetna Property and Casualty as a trial attorney and, in 1996, with the merger of Travelers and Aetna, he joined the Staff Counsel Offices of the Travelers Property Casualty Company where he continued to litigate insurance defense matters.

Since 2001, Bill has dedicated his professional life to advocating on behalf of clients who have been seriously harmed because of the negligent, reckless and sometimes intentional acts of others. Bill’s past experience working in the insurance industry, as both a claim supervisor and as a trial attorney, has provided him with invaluable strategies to achieve the best results for his clients.

Professional and Civic Activities

Bill is a member of the Connecticut Bar Association, the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association and the American Association for Justice. Since 2009, he has served on the Board of Selectmen for the Town of Columbia. He also serves as Chairman of the Columbia Youth Services Committee. He is a former member of the Juvenile Review Board of Andover, Hebron, Marlborough Youth and Family Services, Inc. and a former member of the Board of Directors of the Saxton B. Little Free Library in Columbia.

Kevin M. O’Brien represents clients in preparing their estate plans, including wills, trusts, powers of attorney and health care directives as well in probate matters including estates and guardianships.  He also represents clients in residential and commercial real estate matters, including contract review, closings in addition to buy/sell agreements and lease negotiations and other contract matters.  Kevin has litigated civil and criminal matters in State courts for over forty years.

Kevin received his Bachelor of Arts in History from Saint Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire and his Juris Doctorate from Suffolk University Law School in Boston, Massachusetts.

Kevin’s professional activities include:  Past Fact Finder Arbitrator non-judicial officer; Past Small Claims Commissioner; Former Town Attorney for the Town of East Windsor; Past President of the Manchester Bar Association; and Past Town Attorney for the Town of Manchester.

Kevin’s civic activities include:  Past Chairman, Manchester Redevelopment Agency; Past Chairman, Manchester Housing Authority; Past Chairman, Charter Revision Commission-Town of Manchester; Past Vice President, Manchester Area Conference of Churches; Past Chairman, Saint Bridget Finance Committee; Past Chairman, Connecticut Arthritis Foundation; and Past President of the Manchester Jaycees.
